Nakuru County’s Department of Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Natural Resources — in partnership with Sacol Ventures Limited, Ward Climate Change committees and World Vision — held a clean-up in Salgaa town, Mosop Ward, Rongai Sub-County.
Why it matters
The focus of the initiative was to raise awareness and sensitise communities about environmental protection, the importance of proper waste management and disposal, and promoting locally led initiatives that contribute to mitigating climate change effects.
County leadership
CECM Dr Nelson Maara encouraged residents — especially young people — to continue conserving the environment. The initiative aligns with Governor Susan Kihika’s agenda of establishing and implementing regular environmental clean-ups by residents across all sub-counties.
“This is incredible to witness the residents’ reflection on your responsibilities in preserving Nakuru’s natural beauty. We all share the common goal of restoring Nakuru to its former glory as the cleanest city in East and Central Africa. This clean-up exercise has brought together remarkable partners and enthusiastic members of the public, all dedicated to creating a cleaner and healthier environment.” — Dr Nelson Maara
