Separating waste at source keeps recyclables clean and reduces landfill.
Getting started
- Set up separate containers for organic waste, recyclables and general waste.
- Rinse bottles, tins and containers before placing them in the recycling bag.
- Flatten cardboard boxes to save space.
- Keep hazardous items such as batteries and bulbs aside for special collection.
- Put bags out on your collection day before 7:00 am.
Why it matters
Clean, separated recyclables can be processed into new products, creating jobs and saving resources. Organic waste can be composted instead of producing methane in landfills.
Every bag that is recycled is one less bag on our streets and rivers.
